Product Details
Purple Hazel starts the year with intensely deep velvety purple leaves and claret-coloured shoots. As the season moves onwards the leaves become a dark greeny-purple at the bottom of the plant with new leaves a deep crimson red colour.
Yellow catkins in Spring are tinged with purple as are the hazel nuts in Autumn. As with all hazels these plants are extremely wildlife friendly offering both habitat and food supply to a variety of birds insects and small mammals. We recommend that you trim your Hazel once a year in Autumn after the birds have finished nesting.
These are big vigorous plants and if used for single species hedging you can get away with 3-4 per metre. If used with other plants then plant 5 plants per metre in a double zig zag row.
Keep them well watered – especially in the Spring and Summer in the first year of planting. If you are not sure how many plants you need or which varieties suit your garden please just contact or call us and we will be happy to offer friendly advice!
For best results plant with Rootgrow gel – it increases the growth rate by up to 50% and really helps the plants establish!
Many apologies but due to a change in the DEFRA plant health regulations following Brexit we cannot ship plants to Northern Ireland – we are working on this and hope a solution is found soon!
